About the Book

Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother's bedside. She's been stricken with something the old-timers call "Milk Sickness."

"My baby boy..." she whispers before dying.

Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother's fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire.

When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, "henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose..." Gifted with his legendary height, strength, and skill with an ax, Abe sets out on a path of vengeance that will lead him all the way to the White House.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time-all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War and uncovering the role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation. Guest Blog Post: Author Michael Dyet

Today I have a great post from author Michael Dyst, well sort of.... You'll see.... So here is Michael, kind of :-)

HIJACKED!

Muffin the Cat Takes Matters into His Own Paws

Hmmm, did you ever think you would read a blog posting written by a cat? Consider yourself privileged because it’s a rare moment when creatures of an infinitely superior intellect – like those of us of the feline species – condescend to communicate in writing.

An introduction is in order. My name is Muffin and Michael Robert Dyet is my pet. Yes, you heard that right. Michael likes to think he is the master in this relationship. But I assure you it is quite the other way around. I simply allow him to think he’s the boss to flatter himself. But I digress.

I have taken the unorthodox step of commandeering Michael’s guest blog in “Just Jennifer Reading” because I cannot convince the silly sod to announce that his book – Until the Deep Water Stills: An Internet-enhanced Novel – recently won two awards.

We argued about it for over a week but I couldn’t make him see the light. So I decided to take matters into my own paws. I lured him into the storeroom, kicked the door shut and shoved a chair up against the knob. Don’t worry. I’ll let him out when this posting is uploaded.

So here’s the scoop. Until the Deep Water Stills is a double winner in the Reader Views Literary Awards: Canada East Region Winner and “Writers in the Sky Award for the Best Creative Writing of the Year”.

The Reader Views Awards honor writers who self-published or had their books published by a subsidy publisher, small press, university press, or independent book publisher geared for the North American reading audience.

Okay, enough with the corporate stuff. I do want to take this opportunity to set the record straight on one fact. The “internet-enhanced” concept was TOTALLY MY IDEA! Michael has shamelessly taken credit for it which royally pisses me off.

But I got my revenge by knocking the liquor bottle out of the cupboard onto the tile floor where it shattered and spilled booze all over the kitchen floor. I wish you could have seen the look on his face. It was priceless!

Anyway, I suppose I should invite you to take Michael’s “Metaphor Tour” introduction to his novel which by the way was also TOTALLY MY IDEA! The link below will take you to the tour.

I have to wrap it up now. Michael is making quite a ruckus in the storeroom. I think he might be a tad claustrophobic. (Chuckle: Revenge is sweet!) I’d better let him out before he totally loses it.

Ciao from Muffin – the real genius in the family.

~ Michael Robert Dyet is the author of “Until the Deep Water Stills – An Internet-enhanced Novel” – double winner in the Reader Views Literary Awards 2009. Visit Michael’s website at www.mdyetmetaphor.com or the novel online companion at www.mdyetmetaphor.com/blog.

Thank you Muffin for letting us know about the book. That's awesome that Micheal's book has won two awards. I think you were right for locking him in the storeroom so that you could share with us. To Micheal, hopefully you've been let out of the storeroom and I want you to know that I am looking forward to reading you book. I have the links to the book's websites saved in my bookmarks. Sounds like you have a handful with Muffin, but aren't pets worth it? I know I love mine. Although I think sometimes they are planning a mutiny. Especially when I buy the wrong kind of food! Again thank you to Micheal and Muffin I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
